The Blessings of Obedience

Hey everyone!

I don’t really have time to write much right now. We had a Christmas conference in Porto yesterday which took up the entire P-day. We didn’t have time to do email or anything so President gave us some time today to write home. I do want to share a quick story with you all though.
In order to get to Porto from our lovely city of Vila Real, we have to ride a bus through the mountains for about an hour and a half to two hours. This past monday, we were expected to be in a chapel in Porto at 9:00 in the morning. We were planning on getting a bus that left around 7:00 and just hope that we would make it on time. Sunday night, however, our zone leaders gave me call and told me to get an earlier bus just to be safe. I went to the bus station to see what we could do, and the only other option was a bus that left at 6:00. This didn’t appeal to me at all, seeing as we were planning on traveling with a member who rides in a wheelchair to help her get to Lisbon, but we decided to be obedient and take the early bus. The next day, we woke up at 4:30, got ready for the day, and made it in Porto about an hour early. I was thinking that it would have been just fine if we had taken the other bus, and was a bit annoyed for having to get up so early and being so tired, especially since the later bus would’ve arrived in Porto right on time.
It wasn’t until that night, in an investigators house, that I learned the real reason we got the earlier bus. They told us about a bus crash that had happened that morning to a bus going from Vila Real to Porto, and then turned on the news so we could see. As we watched, we discovered that the bus that had crashed was the 7:00 bus, the very one which we were planning on taking before the zone leaders called. It slid off of the rode and down a hill into a ravine, killing one person and injuring others on the way to Porto. I was in shock learning about this and seeing pictures and videos of this awful accident that I was almost involved in! It was such a huge testimony builder for me that God truly is watching out for us missionaries. He inspired us and our leaders to change our travel plans so that we would avoid the accident that he knew was going to happen. Needless to say I am way thankful for Holy Ghost and the guidance it gives us to keep us safe and sound.
I hope everyone is having a great December so far and remembering the reason we celebrate this time of year. Have a great week, and a Feliz Natal!
